Hundreds of patients, employees and community residents were trapped inside three Universal Health Services (UHS) hospitals in the days following Hurricane Katrina. We assisted UHS in coordinating with emergency service vendors to bring badly needed supplies to the locations isolated by the flood waters. Before the flood waters receded, the restoration vendor recommended by us was able to shrink wrap the roof of one of the badly damaged hospitals. Our property loss advisors used a helicopter to land on a makeshift rooftop landing pad and subsequently traveled by motor boat to the other hospital campuses in order to provide UHS with preliminary loss estimates and digital photographs of the catastrophic damage.
Within days after the water had receded, our firm had a fully equipped fifth wheel set-up in the parking lot of one of the hospital campuses that provided us shelter at night and a command center during the day.
Within one year, MLA had assisted UHS in recovering $264,000,000 in connection with its building, business personal property and business interruption claim while also providing ground level assistance in its remediation and salvage recovery efforts.
